bees vs cows
Nov. 6th, 2011 10:39 amI eat honey. I eat beef. I have no problems with either one of these statements. I am not in any danger of becoming vegetarian much less vegan which is what it would take to knock out both.
In the researching portion of beginning brewing I discovered something interesting on the inside of my head. I am Far more concerned with buying honey from local sources where I know the reputation of the people taking care of the hives and treating the bees in a responsible manner than I am about the same with cows. It doesn't mean I don't care about the cows but the bees are so much more a priority for me.
Part of me thinks this is seriously inconsistent. The Honey suggested that it might have to do with the impact that bees have on society and my knowledge of that process. If cows suddenly disappeared our society would not collapse. So much of life as we know it depends on bees that all of them being gone would cripple humans. So many people don't know this or understand why.
I have a bee tatooed on my ankle, not a cow.
