Molten glass is totally a blast! I made a marble and a paper weight and the Honey made a ...juice glass? It remains to be seen how any of them will turn out. They have to be cured b4 they can come out into the world. Awesome food, awesome people, I miss faire.

Thrilling piece of the evening? My marble exploded! *SPLODE* I was doing great and then the shaft of the glass rod the marble was attached to so I could hold it in the flame snapped and sent my marble flying! Glanced off my arm, landed in somebody's shirt (found out later that it was one of the owners), started smoking there so it got knocked off onto the floor to prevent fires, from there it was retreived and reattached to a different piece of glass rod. Wow. Pretty colors and I made it myself. Even if it explodes in the curing box. Apparently its trip across the floor did not do good things for it cause when I started to heat it back up it cracked in 12 different places (so said the glass guy who was helping me, I'd assume he knew). He took it for a bit and healed the cracks and made it whole again. Very uber cool. I imagine that the marble is going to look very interesting if it does survive.

The paper weight I hope turns out. I scuplted a beautiful cobalt blue flower and set in in a glob of molten glass and then covered it with more molten glass. Then I got to shape it... much harder than it looks. Here you got a Huge glob of molten glass on the very tip of a long rod, too hot to get it at a proper balance point, now roll with your left hand and push up against the glob with your right. Opposite actions here, hands working against each other rather than with. I finally got what the guy was telling me and managed to get it into globe shape with the help of some handy dandy tools. Now that its in globe shape you gotta make a mushroom cap out of it so squeeze it right here with these tong type thingys. Then score it and over the nice insulate gloves, Whacketa! It breaks off where you score it and you real smart like put it in the curing box the keep the temp nice and even as it cools real slow.

For a work up on the ...juice glass? bug [livejournal.com profile] mike_l about it. All I did was watch that process. Must do this more!

That's what I was going to ask - sounds like you reconnected with someone at faire and got to go to some type of get together?

That would be it. [livejournal.com profile] owllady13 knows the people who own the glass blowing booth out at faire. They apparently have a party a couple times a year. We were invited this time.

hmm, you mean pix of the final results? Cause I forgot my camera in the rush to get out the door to go to this event. I may get to go to another one close to solstice though.

Yep. Once they, as you said, "come out into the world." An "in person" introduction would be even better.
