Sunday at the Garden of the Gods
Sep. 4th, 2007 08:50 pmI flew into Denver last Sunday and the wonderful Honey picked me up. I had gotten little sleep and miscalculated the time difference on his alarm clock to the tune of losing an hour's sleep. In Denver it was the hottest day they had had in a while. 95 degrees. I was melty. It was a dry heat though. Easier to deal with so long as you have the gallon of water to keep drinking through the day.
The Garden of the Gods are giant rock formations that was thrust up out of the ground long about the time the Rockies were I believe. They are largely made of this beautiful red rock. Named after the beer gardens of Europe, which they reminded one of the first visitors of. His friend promptly pointed out that it was big enough to be the beer garden of the gods.
We wandered around there for a while. Taking pictures as I am wont to do. I came across lots of other people doing the same. One lady exclaimed in surprise, "You have a real camera too!" Why yes, I do. I didn't think anyone would know what these things are anymore. It's older than me and works so very well. It has been pointed out that it is more expensive now to develop film than it is to get a digital and not have that expense.
nkcmike what type of camera did you get again? How much was it? I'm sure I will get those pictures developed sometime soon. I should be able to upload some of the better ones to my photobucket and share them.
The whole area reminded me a lot of the Badlands. Very desert-esque. Low water plants, miniature form, little to no soil. I find that I am taking more and more pics of trees that are half dead. They are really neat looking withered in some areas. Like very old bonsai trees. I could probably make a decent display of the ones I have already.
After the visit to the Garden of the Gods we drove back to the hotel, the Honey's second home, and I crashed for three hours. Went to dinner at this place called FireBowl. Like PeiWei only better. No really. Got to sit on the not-so-hot tub before going to bed that night. Talk about a let down huh? I mean its called a HOT tub for a reason? Isn't it? Apparently not at the Embassy Suites in Denver. Life goes on. It was better than anything I have access to here.
Sleep claimed me and a new day dawned.
