Watching Mutant Planet on the Science channel. They re comparing ciclids to chimpansees which leave near one anotherin Africa. Ciclids have the highest evolutionary diversification rate ev recorded, at 300 new species in 1 million years, and are comparing that to the great ape evolution into humans, chimps, and gorillas which took ~10 million. They are neglecting to mention that a part o that advanced evolution I due to increased reproduction rate.

If you are studying genetics and want to observe mutations and by extension evolution you do not use a long repoductive cycle. You use something that reproduces like weeds.
