Now sitting in the square where the Bastille once stood. There is a winged gilded Mercury with a victory torch in the middle of this, topping a monument. That and the Opera Bastille. Place de la Bastille is mostly a large traffic circle. If you look you can see where the foundations once stood underneath the cars whizzing past. Super sunny this morning. Yesterday walking around in the rain I suddenly understood the Impressionist movement. If you look at those paintings you see a beautiful clear view of their view through a wet pane of glass. Seeing the places they painted gave context and flavor to the paintings I've never had before. I'm even more excited about seeing the Orsay now.
