Ever notice how some kids scream just because? For no reason?
You can't tell anyone how to parent their kid. It doesn't work. The best you can do is give them the latest information and hope they apply it in a reasonable manner.
Older children can sometimes be reasoned with directly. This runs the risk of pissing off an over protective parent but sometimes that is a worthy risk given the message that needs to be conveyed. "You are loved and have a safe place to go no matter what," seems like a worthy message to covey even if it will piss off the parent.
You can't save anyone. People, even children, have to save themselves. Hoping that they choose to do so is one of the hardest things one can do in life. It does help if they are shown that there is another way to be. Its no guarantee but it does help.
