adventures in birding
Mar. 8th, 2009 10:57 pmThe Honey and I finally got our asses out of bed and on the road sometime this afternoon. Lake Keller in Maplewood is where the nest is. I swear not 500 yds from the hwy 36. She's gorgeous. The zoom I have does not do her justice. We walked across the lake to get to her and her nest. Not sure where her honey was. Off entertaining himself no doubt. Biologically, she should be layin sometime in the next week or so. I think I'll be going back out there.
Met a gentleman out there "watching" as well. I put that in quotes cause he said he had come out to talk with her. Native American guy from the Dakota tribe I think he said. Either that or the foundation that he works with is Dakota and he's something else. Anyhoo, I've never before been recognized as having native blood. That was kind of a trip. He told me to listen to my grandfather because he still talks to me. Which had known but I have never had anyone else tell me that before...
I got the dude's card. May end up doing some photography for the foundation he works for. That'd be cool.
Interestingly, I wonder if the eagle is a family connection for me as opposed to personal. Close but not mine is how they have always felt. Maybe its because I am so much of the earth despite my love of flying.
