The Princess and Makoto

In a small country in the east lived a small boy named Makoto. He lived in the country with his father and mother. His mother was cousin to the Queen. One day Makoto's mother decided to take him on a visit to the capitol so she could visit her cousin.

Now, since Makoto was only five this was a big trip for him. They traveled across the country through forests and fields to the huge walled city that was the capitol. He was very impressed by the very thick walls as they drove thru them and how respectful the guards were to his mother as they greeted her. What they got to the palace Makoto found out that the Queen had a daughter. The Princess was his cousin!

While his mother and the Queen were having tea and talking Makoto and the Princess went exploring all around the palace. They played together for days while their two mothers caught up on all the things that grownups talk about. Several weeks later Makoto's mother told him that they would both be going home the next day. This made Makoto very sad. He went to the Princess to tell her what his mother said. The Princess, being a very wise three years old, sat and talked with Makoto about what they could do. Together they decided to talk to the Queen.

The Princess talked to her mother, the Queen, and asked her if Makoto could stay with her in the palace rather than go home to the country. She argued that she had no brother or sister to play with and that the palace was a lonely place to grow up because of it. The Queen knew this was true and remembered what a comfort it was to have her cousin around when they were growing up.

The Queen talked to Makoto's mother about him staying in the capitol with the Princess. Makoto's mother was sad at the thought of being away from her son but agreed that he could stay as long as he continued going to school while he lived in the capitol. The Queen agreed that this was important and she would make sure that he was learning and doing his homework. Both the Princess and Makoto thought this was a small price to pay to have company and things to do.

The next morning Makoto waved goodbye to his mother standing with the Princess and the Queen. He was ready to start a new life of adventures in the city.
